A 1970s office block in central Shoreditch has received a remarkable renovation from aluminium systems company, Reynaers. As fellow Hackney habitants, DNL Build enjoy keeping up with what’s going on in the Shoreditch area, especially with exciting renovation and refurbishment projects like this one.
The building, situated on the corner of Scrutton Street and Curtain Road, is a part of the warehouse district of Shoreditch’s Box Park area. Now The Curtain, the building consists of a hotel and a number of stylish bars and restaurants that are keeping up with the fast moving trends of the surrounding streets.
The project, headed by Zoe Tallon for Dexter Morren Associates was inspired by Shoreditch’s past as a hub of factories and warehouses and saw Tallon pick up the Creative Spark Award for her work on the transformation. Shoreditch’s industrial personality has been given a contemporary twist in recent years and has seen the area turn into a thriving centre for creatives and young professionals, making The Curatin’s renovation very timely.
Architects Dexter Morren Associates ensured that the building retained this industrial feel, selecting Reynaers’ CS 38 slim line windows, CP 130 sliding patio doors and CW 50 curtain walling to accompany the red brick facade.
As Shoreditch continues to morph into an increasingly current and popular area of the Hackney Borough, it brings with it a new lease of life and sense of excitement for the future.
